This image is from Sammia’s series of gesture wood cuts. Her process involves an initial series of life gesture drawings with brush and ink/or watercolor, elements from these gestures are then transferred to a block, where it is finalized through carving and proof printing. Gesture drawing are quick and fluid marks that lay the ground work for a figure by depicting the weight and spirit - or the essence of a figure. Maintaining the marks of the artist hand leaves a human touch on a raw picture. 16’ x 20”
